Blocked gutters can cause rainwater to overflow down your walls instead of draining safely away from your property. Professional gutter cleaning removes accumulated leaves, moss, silt and other debris, helping restore the flow of water through your guttering system.
Over time, even small amounts of debris can build up around outlets and downpipes, particularly near overhanging trees or beneath moss-covered roofs. When water cannot escape properly, it may spill over the gutter edges, leaving walls and surrounding areas repeatedly exposed to rainwater.
I use a 50ft carbon fibre gutter vacuum system that allows me to clear debris from ground level, including gutters above conservatories and other awkward-to-reach areas where access permits.
Regular gutter clearance helps protect your property's exterior, reduces the risk of avoidable drainage problems and keeps your rainwater system working as intended.

You might first notice a problem during heavy rain, when water pours over the guttering rather than travelling towards the downpipe. This often happens when leaves, moss or compacted debris restrict the flow of water. Left unresolved, repeated overflow can contribute to staining and dampness around affected exterior walls.
Another common situation involves gutters that appear clear from below but contain hidden debris around outlets or difficult-to-see sections. Properties near trees or with significant roof moss can be particularly prone to this type of build-up.
Even when there is no obvious overflow, preventative gutter cleaning may be worthwhile if the system has not been checked for some time.
Common signs your gutters may need clearing include:

Rainwater spilling over gutter edges during heavy rainfall.
Leaves, moss or vegetation growing inside the guttering.
Water collecting around downpipes instead of draining away properly.
Overflow marks or staining appearing beneath sections of guttering.

Effective gutter cleaning involves more than removing the debris you can see from the ground. Blockages around outlets and downpipe connections can prevent rainwater from escaping even when the rest of the gutter appears relatively clear.
My ground-level vacuum system uses modular carbon fibre poles to reach gutters up to approximately 50ft high, depending on access and property conditions. This can be particularly useful where conservatories, narrow pathways or building height make conventional access difficult.
As the owner of EVA-NIX Exterior Cleaning & Garden Maintenance, I believe in honest advice and taking pride in every job. If overflowing gutters appear to be caused by damaged joints or other defects rather than debris, it's important to recognise that cleaning alone may not solve the problem.
